Overview
Designed and developed a mobile recipe management application that helps users store, organize, and interact with their favorite recipes. The app focuses on creating a simple and intuitive experience through flexible organization, clean interface design, and efficient content management. The project combines mobile UI design, front-end development, data organization, and user-centered problem solving to create a functional application experience.

My Role
I was responsible for the full design and development process, including concept development, user flow planning, wireframing, interface design, front-end implementation, testing, and refinement. I designed the app's visual system, created the screen layouts, planned functionality, developed interactive features, and improved usability through testing and iteration.

Process
Brainstorming
I began by exploring different application concepts and identifying potential user needs. I selected the recipe management app concept because it provided an opportunity to solve a practical organization problem while demonstrating mobile application design and development.
Wireframes
After defining the app's purpose and core features, I created sketches and wireframes to plan the user flow, screen structure, and functionality before beginning the design process.
Design Layout
I designed the application's interface in Figma, developing a visual style, color palette, typography system, and screen layouts. I explored different design directions before selecting a final aesthetic that supported a clean and approachable user experience.
Planning
Before development, I organized the application's file structure and planned the functionality of each component to create a more efficient development workflow.
Development
I built the application using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, implementing functionality for storing and managing recipes. I used AI-assisted tools to support scripting, debugging, and problem-solving throughout development.
Testing & Iteration
The application went through multiple rounds of testing and refinement to improve usability and responsiveness. Updates included improving search behavior, adding multiple editing and deletion options, and implementing tagging features to make recipe organization easier.
Final Application
The completed application was deployed to a physical Android device using Apache Cordova for final testing and evaluation. The finished product combined mobile interface design, front-end development, and user-focused functionality into a complete application experience.
Takeaways
One of the most valuable lessons I learned from developing my own recipe app was how important planning and organization are before writing any code. Working on a full web development project reinforced the need for a clear structure early on, especially when managing features, components, and data flow. I also learned the importance of writing DRY (Don’t Repeat Yourself) code, as reusable and well-organized code made the app easier to maintain and expand. This project helped me better understand the full development process, from planning and layout to functionality and usability.
Successes
A major success of this project is the visual design and overall usability of the app. The interface is clean, responsive, and intuitive across different screen sizes. I’m especially proud of how many flexible ways users have to complete the same tasks, whether organizing recipes or managing content. The variety of organizational options adds to the app’s usefulness and makes it feel customizable to different users’ needs.
Changes
If I had more time, I would add web scraping capabilities so users could automatically import and convert recipes they find online into the app. This feature would greatly improve convenience and make the app even more practical for everyday use.
